From "Record Geijutsu" to "Record Geijutsu ONLINE"
“Record Geijutsu” had been highly acclaimed as an unparalleled medium covering information on classical music recording and recording media, but due to major changes in the circumstances surrounding the magazine, it ceased publication in 2023 with being missed.
Since then, we have received many requests to continue the magazine, and Ongaku- No- Tomo- Sha has been searching for ways to pass on the assets that “Record Geijutsu” has cultivated for more than 70 years to the next generation.
The answer we came up with was to revamp the “Monthly Review of New Recordings”, the core contents of “Record Geijutsu”, and reborn it as “Record-Geijutsu ONLINE”, a portal site for recorded classical music media for all people, from beginners to hardcore readers.
“Record-Geijutsu ONLINE” is a web magazine subscription, but it will also offer free articles and content that can be enjoyed by broad readers. It’s aimed to provide readers with reliable information that only Ongaku- No- Tomo- Sha can deliver.
We will conduct crowdfunding for “Record Geijutsu ONLINE” to pass on the assets we have cultivated for more than 70 years to the next generation.
The main contents of "Record Geijutsu ONLINE"
With the first priority of maintaining a “place for criticism” in the classical music media, we will first focus on reviews of “New Recordings Monthly Review” as the core, and gradually expand the content to include features and serials.
The site will also offer free articles, which are essential for online media, to attract beginners and future-fans.
◎New Recordings Monthly Reviews (paid contents)
The core of “Record Geijutsu ONLINE” is a review of classical music performances recording, not only CDs, but also vinyl records and streaming recordings. 100 titles will be chosen by editors every month, and these recordings will be evaluated in three grades by 20 music critics. Anyone can see the list of recommended recordings freely without subscription, and only subscribed readers can see the details.
◎List of new releases (paid contents)
Titles featured in the “New recordings Monthly Review” will be archived in the New recordings List .
◎Archive Serials (paid contents)
We will unearth and republish valuable articles from the rich archives accumulated by the monthly magazine “Record Geijutsu” over 70 years since its first issue.
◎New series of articles unique to online media (paid contents)
We will start a series of articles adapted to the times, and update the contents flexibly, taking into account the results of reader surveys.
◎Special features updated monthly on a variety of themes (paid contents)
Each month we will feature a different theme. Some articles will be published free.
◎Lectures by "Record Geijutsu” authors (paid contents)
Face-to-face lectures will be held with “Record Geijutsu” authors. The lectures will also be streamed online, and online participants will be able to join a Q&A session. The reports of the lectures will be published as articles later.
Lectures will be held as a crowdfunding return in the first year. After the second year, general subscription members will be able to participate.
◎Latest Recordings Reviews Ahead of Time (free contents)
Quick review articles by critics that will be published on the release date of new recordings.
◎Artist Interview (free content)
Interviews with remarkable artists.
etc.
Crowdfunding for the project
As the means of enjoying classical music performances and recordings become more diverse, from physical media such as CDs to internet distribution, there is an increasing demand for a “guidepost” to help people find the “masterpieces” that will change their lives.
And we are convinced that encounters with different tastes and opinions will also expand the unknown realm of music and deepen the pleasure of listening to classical music.
We would like to create a “guidepost” for many music lovers with “Record Geijutsu ONLINE”. To introduce this attack to the public and to solicit supporters, we will conduct crowdfunding as a project.
A summary of the project is as follows.
We would be grateful if you could introduce this project widely.
